3M Protective Films for Display Screens Prolong Display Life, Improve Readability, Reduce Glare.

3M Vikuiti™ brand Display Protection Films protect display screens against scratching and damage resulting from everyday use.

American Polarizers, Inc. (API), a world leader in the manufacture and distribution of polarized filters and other optical products, now offers 3M Vikuiti™ brand Display Protection Films which protect display screens against damage resulting from everyday use. Touch screen applications, stylus wands, and other device usage practices can scratch and scuff display screens degrading the image quality and making devices less productive tools. 3M protective films prolong the life and function of displays helping to assure the smooth running of business applications and reducing warranty and repair costs.

Backed with a low-tack, removable adhesive, the films are installed by hand in seconds and are easy to remove without leaving residue on screens. 3M display protection films are made from non-conductive material to assure there is no interference with device electronics. Additionally, special coatings on the films help manage light reflectivity to enhance display screen readability. This is increasingly important for the mobile workforce where sun and glare pose a significant obstacle to clear viewing of displays.

“Until recently we provided a fairly specialized range of products for optics engineering like light polarizers, wave retarders, and filters,” said API President Nick Bentley. “The 3M protective films have put us in touch with a larger customer base, that being the general usage market,” Bentley said that API’s expertise in optics provides added value for customers. “API has deep experience in optics and displays. A customer using the protective films often has other application questions where we can provide useful insights, and in many cases, we also have other products to help customers achieve specific design or performance goals.”

To meet the widest range of application requirements, 3M offers three different films with surface finishes designed for different usage scenarios. For enhancing display sharpness in ambient light, 3M offers a special low reflection glossy finish film (GLR320) that will not distort colors. An anti-glare protective film with a hard coating (AGF-6200) has a neutral color and anti-glare coating for optimized viewing indoors or outdoors. When glare and reflections are not an issue, 3M’s full gloss protection film (GLS200) features a hard surface coating which pops out display graphics and images while keeping screens clean and free of scratches – combining protection with viewing enhancement.

3M display protection films measure 13” x 22” and are sold in kits as well as in individual sheets. Made with an advanced film manufacturing technology, the films innately resist the build-up of dust and dirt along the edges. Smudged or dirty surfaces may be wiped with a clean soft cloth leaving virtually no residual dirt or dust pushed to the sides. Even marker and ink come off easily. Resistant to heat, cold and humidity, the 3M display protection films also help ward off damage resulting from spills and leaks of substances such as motor oil, coffee and water. API will also custom cut the films upon request.
